On Thursday 1 April, two international students at Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) were killed while working on an aircraft engine in the college’s aviation maintenance facility.
In a statement WNCC identified the students as:
- Yemin An, 21, of Seoul, South Korea, and
- Zhaoxin Chen, 24 of Xi’an, China.
Both were second year students enrolled in WNCC’s Aviation Maintenance Technician program. The college offers one year certificates and two years degree with the program. It is popular with international students.
WNCC President, Dr Carmen Simone said:
We are mourning the loss of two outstanding students, Yemin and Zhaoxin. This was a devastating accident, and their families have our deepest and most sincere condolences
Police and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the incident. No further detail of the accident have been released.
